Illegal Surveillance: Police Remove 21 Cameras in Arab Village

Police officers from the Umm al-Fahm station, in cooperation with tactical brigade units, carried out a targeted operation last night (between Sunday and Monday) in the village of Salem, during which 21 illegally installed cameras were removed.

According to police reports, the cameras were aimed at public spaces, infringing upon the privacy of passersby and undermining the residents' sense of security.

Earlier this month, it was reported in "Israel Hayom" that police had uncovered and removed 43 unlawfully installed cameras in the villages of Kafr Qara, Ar'ara, and 'Ara.

The State Comptroller's report has noted a significant increase in the number of surveillance cameras deployed by various authorities, often without sufficient measures to protect residents' privacy. Furthermore, many of these cameras were installed without explicit authorization. In some instances, it was discovered that the broadcasts were vulnerable to remote hacking.

The police stated that these activities are part of broader governance and sovereignty operations aimed at enforcing the law, removing unauthorized equipment, and maintaining public order and security in the region.
