The State Attorney's Office has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against the six-year prison sentence imposed on Dr. Aryeh Levin, a pediatric gastroenterologist and senior department head at Wolfson Medical Center, arguing that the punishment is overly lenient given the severity of his crimes.

Levin was convicted under a plea bargain of rape, five counts of indecent acts, and abuse of office, after admitting to sexually assaulting four women—three of whom were his patients and the fourth the mother of a child under his care—over a span of more than a decade.

According to the amended indictment, Levin exploited his professional status and the trust of his patients to commit sexual offenses, including conducting invasive medical examinations without informed consent. The Tel Aviv District Court previously sentenced him to six years in prison and ordered him to pay 750,000 shekels in compensation to the victims.

In the appeal, the State Attorney's Office contends that the District Court failed to give adequate weight to the gravity of sex crimes committed by a physician who abuses his position. Prosecutors emphasize that the offenses caused severe psychological and functional damage, leading some victims to avoid essential medical care out of a profound loss of trust in the healthcare system. The state originally sought a sentence of at least 13 years.
