Following the 'Maariv' exposé in the Eldar Dayan affair - this is the police's direction
The full report from the Institute of Forensic Medicine states that due to the condition of the late Eldar Dayan's remains, it was impossible to determine the cause of death. Sources familiar with the details estimate that this finding may significantly complicate the substantiation of the murder suspicion.
After examinations that lasted about two weeks, and despite attempts to locate findings, the full report from the Abu Kabir Institute of Forensic Medicine regarding the remains of the late Eldar Dayan was transferred today (Sunday), and it concludes that it was impossible to determine the cause of death.
Given the condition of the remains, which had been lying in the field for about two weeks and, according to the report, were also damaged by wild animals, it was impossible to perform an autopsy or examine the tissues required to conduct an examination that would lead to determining the cause of death.
'Maariv' has learned that the full classified report was transferred to the police via the 'safe' as early as last Thursday, but it was officially received today at the offices of the Sharon District's Central Unit (YAMAR), and thus it constitutes a significant and dramatic development in the affair that could lead to the collapse of the murder charge in the investigation file.
Tomorrow, a hearing will be held regarding all seven detainees in the affair, including two of Dayan's friends, Omri Peretz and Maxim Barberman, whom the police had already accused immediately after the discovery of the deceased's remains, and before identification, of suspicion of murder and involvement in a brawl and a vehicular assault, along with five others. The five are members of the second group, whom the police accused of offenses of involvement in a violent brawl and conspiracy to commit a crime.
According to the assessment of sources familiar with the details, in such a situation, the police will not rush to delete the murder charge at this stage and will try to collect other evidence that would substantiate the suspicion, a difficult and almost impossible move for them regarding this affair due to the delay both in filing the complaint about Dayan's disappearance and the subsequent long delay, bordering on negligence, from the moment the searches began by the Negev District and the Dimona station, and until the discovery of the remains by the Petah Tikva police and the Sharon District.
From the perspective of the suspects' lawyers, the fact that the report does not determine the cause of death is a relief and a move that will eventually lead to the deletion of the murder charge, an event that will significantly reduce the punishment that will be imposed on those involved.
