Spotify has introduced a new feature allowing parents to exclude children's and family music from their personal taste profiles, preventing kids' songs from ruining their algorithm-based recommendations and annual Wrapped summaries. According to Variety, the update rolled out globally for both free and premium mobile app users.
Keeping Recommendations Intact
Parents frequently share their accounts with young children, leading to distorted algorithmic suggestions like Discover Weekly or Daily Mix. While users can still search for, listen to, and build playlists featuring children's music, turning off the setting ensures these tracks no longer influence future recommendations.
"Parents love using Spotify to play music for their family. But parents don't always share the same musical taste with their young children," the company stated.
Retroactive Updates and Setup
The changes even apply retroactively, meaning previously played kids' songs will be excluded from upcoming Wrapped statistics. The category encompasses animation and live-action soundtracks, family-friendly covers, lullabies, educational tracks, and children's songs. To activate the feature, users navigate to Settings and privacy, select Content and display, and disable the option to include kids and family music in their taste profile.
