Smotrich promotes dramatic expansion of Eli: The settlement is expected to grow three times over
The Higher Planning Council is expected to advance 763 new housing units, of which 673 are in Eli and 90 in Har Adar. With the completion of all plans approved in recent years, the settlement of Eli is expected to grow three times over and allow for the absorption of thousands of new residents.
Minister of Finance and Minister in the Ministry of Defense Bezalel Smotrich is promoting a significant expansion of the settlement of Eli in Binyamin. The Higher Planning Council is expected to advance hundreds of additional housing units in two neighborhoods established in memory of Israel's fallen soldiers, a move that, along with all the plans approved in recent years, is expected to lead to the tripling of the settlement's size and allow for the absorption of thousands of new residents.
It has come to the attention of Israel Hayom that the Higher Planning Council will advance 763 new housing units at its upcoming meeting, 673 of them in Eli and 90 in Har Adar.
Most of the construction will be advanced in two central neighborhoods in Eli. In the Eliraz neighborhood, established in memory of Israel's hero Eliraz Peretz, an additional 267 housing units will be advanced, following the 650 units approved there about a year ago. Upon completion of the plan, the neighborhood will include 917 housing units.
In parallel, the expansion of the HaYovel neighborhood will be advanced through the establishment of the "Mordot HaYovel" neighborhood. After 414 housing units were approved last year, an addition of 406 more units will now be advanced, bringing the total in the neighborhood to 820 housing units.
The HaYovel neighborhood, also known as the "neighborhood of heroes," is identified with a series of fighters from the settlement who fell in Israel's wars, including Roi Klein, Eliraz Peretz, and Amishar Ben David, who fell in the Iron Swords war.
With the completion of all construction plans approved in the last three years, the settlement of Eli is expected to grow three times over and become one of the largest settlements in the Binyamin region.
Alongside the plan in Eli, a plan to establish 90 housing units in Har Adar, a settlement that has been waiting for years for the advancement of significant construction plans, will also be advanced.
Minister of Finance and Minister in the Ministry of Defense Bezalel Smotrich said:
"Expanding the settlement of Eli by thousands of new housing units within a few years is a tremendous national, settlement, and security achievement. The expansion of the HaYovel neighborhood, where my cousin, the hero Amishar Ben David, may his blood be avenged, lived, is especially moving for me. Opposite the Eisenkot government that would promote the evacuation of settlements, we are fortifying and strengthening the settlement enterprise and commemorating the fallen of the war. We will continue to lead a construction boom and broad regularization, because this is the way to victory and security."
Head of the Binyamin Regional Council and Chairman of the Yesha Council, Israel Gantz, welcomed the decision and said that the expansion of Eli is a "Zionist, national, and security response to terror." According to him, the expansion of the settlement will allow many more families to join Eli, will strengthen the settlement enterprise in Binyamin, and will deepen the Israeli hold on the land.
