The court extended today, Wednesday, until September 3 the remand of the man arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Yanis Yushaev in Caesarea.
The 54-year-old suspect, originally from Beit She'an, previously served several prison terms for property crimes, drugs, and weapons offenses; he is well known to the police and is not cooperating with the investigation.
Advocate Yaron Shomron, who represents the suspect, said: "My client denies any involvement in the incident itself; he does not know the deceased, and there is no prior conflict between them."
Yushaev (45) from Or Akiva, a married father of three, was killed last Sunday by point-blank gunfire at a gas station near Caesarea. He was evacuated in critical condition to Hillel Yaffe Hospital, where his death was pronounced.
Yushaev had been for years one of the most prominent and dangerous intelligence targets of the Hadera police and the Central Unit of the Coastal District (Yamar Hof). He was arrested many times on suspicion of involvement in throwing fragmentation grenades at homes and businesses in Hadera and Or Akiva, shooting at homes, and arson of vehicles, but in most cases, the investigations did not mature into an indictment and he was released.
