After decades of starring on stages and album covers with massive hits like "Yesterday You Were Different," "I Have No Love," and "Night Without Stars," 72-year-old singer Shimi Tavori is recalculating his path and moving on to covers of a completely different kind.

Starting next week, and for the first time in his life, Tavori will launch a food brand bearing his name — "Shimi Tavori's Jachnun." The brand, which will include malawach and jachnun products, will be distributed in retail chains, supermarkets, and grocery stores across the country through the distribution giant "Diplomat."

The creative idea for the new business was brewing behind the scenes for about half a year and was born out of Tavori's deep connection to Yemenite cuisine and the tastes of his childhood. His wife, Yehudit Bauman, explained that the move was born after a decade of failed attempts on her part to prepare the traditional dish.

"I am not Yemenite and I couldn't manage to make jachnun, and from there the idea was born to start launching it in supermarkets," Bauman said, adding that although Tavori works non-stop and performs in front of full halls, it is ultimately a "good economic matter" connected to her husband's roots.

The economic aspect of the venture takes on a deeper and more serious meaning against the backdrop of the couple's recent revelations. In August 2025, it was revealed on Miki Levin's podcast on TMI that Tavori and Bauman are dealing with a very heavy bank debt that they are struggling to repay.

Despite the financial difficulty, Tavori maintained optimism at the time, declaring that he maintains a modest lifestyle: "I don't need much to live." Now, it seems that the new culinary venture is intended, among other things, to provide the couple with stability.

In an interview with Liora Goldberg, Tavori referred to the new venture with great excitement, clarifying that for him, this is not just another fleeting commercial gimmick, but a substantial project:

"This is my authentic jachnun, which combines my two great loves: music and home-cooked food."

The veteran star did not hide the economic goal behind the launch of the brand:

"Beyond the food, there is also the fulfillment of a personal dream here. I want to ensure a quiet future and a home of our own for me and Yehudit. I am happy that the Diplomat company believed in the venture and will bring our jachnun to shelves across the country. As far as I'm concerned, this is just the beginning."
