Open-Water Swimmers Conquer 12-Kilometer Sea of Galilee Crossing
Open-water swimmers successfully completed a 12-kilometer crossing of the Sea of Galilee from Ein Gev to Ginosar, defying recent amoeba concerns and boosting local tourism.

Open-water swimmers defied concerns on Saturday morning, tackling a challenging 12-kilometer crossing of the Sea of Galilee from Ein Gev to Ginosar.
Despite recent event cancellations and public apprehension regarding reports of amoebas in the national lake, 15 veteran open-water swimmers from across the country dove into the water. The group was accompanied by a professional safety detail, including kayakers, sailors from the Ginosar Maritime Center, and an MDA (Magen David Adom) intensive care boat.
Jordan Valley Regional Council Head Idan Greenbaum joined the swim as a personal protest against the reputational damage inflicted on the lake, helping restore public confidence. Local residents welcomed the exhausted athletes at Ginosar beach with refreshments and warm applause.
Following the successful crossing, the athletes are already setting their sights on the next major endurance event scheduled for next month: the Gulf Challenge from Acre to Haifa.
