News 13 Scandal: Host's Comparison of Likud to Nazis Sparks Outrage
During an interview with Likud MK Moshe Saada, host Eli Rahlin drew a controversial parallel to the 1930s following the approval of reserved spots for Benjamin Netanyahu, triggering a major backlash from Channel 14.
A major controversy erupted on News 13 this Tuesday after Eli Rahlin, host of the program "News of the Day," drew a comparison between the Likud party and the Nazi regime during a live broadcast. The incident occurred during an interview with Likud Knesset member Moshe Saada.
While discussing the results of the Likud convention, where a decision was approved to grant Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu eight reserved spots on the party list, Rahlin stated:
"I remember other regimes that were elected democratically, and then you know what happened. It was somewhere in the 30s."
MK Moshe Saada immediately interrupted him, saying, "Do not compare." Rahlin argued that the decision constituted a blow to democracy, to which a stunned Saada replied:
"Excuse me, I must protest your words; comparing this to the Nazi party is unacceptable."
Channel 14 strongly condemned the host's remarks, labeling them "shocking incitement." In a post on the channel's Instagram account, they attacked Rahlin, asserting that making such a comparison on live television was entirely inappropriate.
