Sara Netanyahu Faces Third Defamation Lawsuit Over Channel 14 Interview
Sara Netanyahu faces a third legal warning letter over statements made in a Channel 14 interview concerning Jerusalem protests, with demands for damages and an apology.
A third legal warning letter has been filed against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's wife, Sara Netanyahu, following her recent interview on Channel 14. Eyal Giler, one of the defendants accused of setting fire to trash bins during a protest in Jerusalem, sent a demand letter alleging defamation.
The letter states that on August 31, 2026, Channel 14 broadcast a special interview with Sara Netanyahu titled "Sara Netanyahu Breaking Silence in a Special Interview with Tal Meir." According to the channel's data, the broadcast drew 146,077 live viewers and was extensively shared across digital platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, exposing it to hundreds of thousands of Israelis.
Allegations of Intent to Kill
According to the legal notice, during the interview Netanyahu referred to the trash-burning incident in Jerusalem, stating: "The police and security forces caught tires and barrels that they placed around the house to light them and us inside. The lighters, or burners of the bins—it wasn't bins; it was a circle of fire around our house, so that everyone would perhaps suffocate and die. And it's not just us; I understand it hurt other people. The intention was truly to kill."
The warning letter asserts that any reasonable viewer would interpret this statement as attributing an intention to cause the death of Netanyahu and her family members in a fire.
«The publication constitutes severe defamation. It is capable of humiliating our client in the eyes of the public, making him an object of hatred and contempt, and discrediting him due to absurd claims of serious criminal intent that was never attributed to him in the pending indictment.»
Giler, represented by attorneys Tali Ben-Simon and Yadin Dan Giladi from the detainees' legal aid unit, is demanding a public apology and 100,000 shekels in compensation, warning of a one-million-shekel lawsuit if the demands are not met.
Escalating Legal Actions Over Channel 14 Interview
This follows a series of similar legal threats. Last week, Amir Sadeh, involved in the flare-firing incident at the Prime Minister's residence in Caesarea, sent a warning letter through attorney Gonen Ben Yitzhak over similar remarks made during the same interview.
In addition, The Democrats party chairman Yair Golan previously issued a formal demand for an apology and financial compensation to be donated to Nova festival survivors, threatening a 2.5 million shekel defamation lawsuit.
