Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2: A Serious Competitor to Apple in the Extreme Smartwatch Market
The extreme smartwatch category is evolving with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The device features impressive battery life, upgraded performance, and peak brightness, though it comes with a premium price tag.

Smartwatches have long evolved from simple smartphone companions into personal control centers for health monitoring and status symbols. Alongside standard models, a dedicated "extreme" category has emerged, aimed at sports enthusiasts who require exceptional durability. Samsung is targeting this segment with the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, a premium device designed for users within the company's ecosystem.
Battery and Performance
Samsung has significantly boosted battery capacity to 800 mAh (up from 590 mAh in the previous generation). For intensive users, this translates to two and a half to three days of continuous operation. The transition to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite processor has improved interface fluidity and power efficiency. A major highlight is the integration of Google's Gemini AI, allowing users to interact with the model directly from the watch without needing their smartphone.
Health Monitoring and Display
The health tracking suite is comprehensive, covering heart rate, sleep quality, blood oxygen levels, and sleep apnea detection. The new Vitals feature tracks respiratory rate and aerobic load. The 1.52-inch Super AMOLED display is a standout, boasting a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, ensuring perfect readability even under harsh, direct sunlight.
Design and Market Positioning
Featuring a titanium case and sapphire glass, the watch offers a luxurious yet massive design. While durable, its bulk may feel uncomfortable for those with smaller wrists. Priced at 2,199 shekels, it competes directly with the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Garmin’s professional series. Samsung aims to bridge the gap between Apple’s smart interface and Garmin’s rugged reliability.
