Premier League teams have made a precedent-setting decision to unanimously remove gambling companies from the front of their match shirts. This historic step positions the top English league as the first sports organization in the UK to voluntarily limit the audience's exposure to gambling advertisements.
According to the framework formulated with the British government's Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the ban will come into effect starting from the 2026/27 season. Clubs have been granted a transition window to conclude existing contracts and prepare financially for alternative sponsorship agreements.

As part of the agreement, the ban applies only to the front of the shirt on match days. Gambling companies will still be permitted to sponsor clubs in secondary areas, such as shirt sleeves, electronic advertising boards in stadiums, training complexes, and digital platforms.
This decision is expected to directly impact the revenues of teams in the middle and bottom of the table, for whom gambling companies are a primary source of funding worth tens of millions of pounds. Clubs must now seek sponsors from other industries, a shift that is expected to profoundly transform the sponsorship market ahead of the new regulations.
