From Shawarma to Spirituality: How Rose Makhlouf Captivated TikTok
Discover Rose Makhlouf, a 25-year-old Israeli shawarma entrepreneur and TikTok star who turned viral food videos into a massive spiritual journey, inspiring thousands of young women.

Meet Rose Makhlouf, a 25-year-old entrepreneur and content creator who has taken social media by storm. Known for managing a bustling shawarma business and greeting wedding guests almost every night, her tens of thousands of followers initially tuned in for the most ordinary, relatable content: watching her open the camera behind the counter and assemble a fresh lafa. But behind the viral clips lies a much deeper journey of faith, personal growth, and spiritual awakening that has captivated a generation of young women.
Finding Meaning Behind the Counter
Makhlouf did not enter the digital space to preach or become a spiritual guide. She simply started filming herself at the family business during COVID-19, managing employees and suppliers while still in military service, and eventually amassed nearly 100,000 followers on TikTok. However, as her audience grew, so did an internal transformation. Gradually, Torah lessons, morning blessings, modesty, and personal spiritual commitments began weaving their way into her content.
"I was working at a crazy pace, but inside there was total emptiness. I could make a lot of money, but in my heart I felt that something in my soul was turned off. I was searching for something to light me up," Makhlouf shares.
Working grueling shifts until midnight or 1 PM, she would return home, clean the house, and listen to recorded Torah lessons while winding down. She credits Rabbi Yigal Cohen's lectures for pulling her through exhausted evenings, providing the exact nourishment her soul was craving.
A Journey of Small Steps
Her first step into traditional observance was deceptively simple: reciting the morning blessings. Feeling a profound inner void despite external success, she realized that superficial distractions could not cure a spiritual ache. Committing to the morning blessings transformed her daily routine, bringing a subtle yet profound spiritual elevation.
Last September, Makhlouf made a temporary commitment to wear a skirt for the twenty days leading up to Rosh Hashanah. What was meant to be a temporary experiment turned into a permanent lifestyle change. Despite the initial struggle of letting go of her wardrobe, she felt divine assistance helping her maintain the change for an entire year.
Reaching Thousands Daily
Makhlouf openly shares her doubts, stumbles, and triumphs with her audience, refusing to present a polished, untouchable persona. This authenticity is precisely why so many young women see themselves in her journey. She receives messages multiple times a day from followers who say her content inspired them to draw closer to tradition.
As the digital landscape shifts and faith increasingly finds a home on TikTok and Instagram, Makhlouf rejects the notion that spirituality is merely a passing trend. She hopes the movement continues to grow, encouraging major influencers to discover faith and embrace the power of sharing goodness with the world.
