Aaron Rodgers Opens Up About Past Relationships and Broken Engagement
Aaron Rodgers opened up about his past relationships on a recent podcast, discussing his broken engagement with actress Shailene Woodley and his romance with Danica Patrick.
Aaron Rodgers has opened up about his past relationships in a candid interview on the podcast "Not Just Football With Cam Heyward". The veteran quarterback reflected on his high-profile romance and broken engagement with Hollywood actress Shailene Woodley.
The Broken Engagement
Rodgers and Woodley announced their engagement in February 2021, just days after confirming their relationship. However, according to the football star, the dynamic shifted dramatically shortly after he popped the question in December 2020. "I proposed and she said yes. Maybe she felt pressured to make a decision. She could have said no," Rodgers said. "But not even a few days after that, she told me, 'Before we get married, I need to go sleep with some guy.'"
Woodley, 34, is a well-known actress recognized for her roles in "The Descendants", "Divergent", "The Fault in Our Stars", and the hit series "Big Little Lies". While official reports placed their breakup in February 2022, Rodgers claims the romance had dissolved long before that. He noted that Woodley removed her ring by March 2021, and despite a few attempts at reconciliation, the relationship was effectively over.
"The version from her is that I ruined her life and caused her severe depression because I left her. But in reality, she told me that and then took off the ring by March," Rodgers stated.
Woodley has previously offered a very different perspective on the split. In a 2024 interview, she described the period as deeply traumatic, saying she felt as though she had lost her soul and happiness.
Reflections on Past Romances
During the same podcast appearance, Rodgers discussed his past relationship with former racing driver Danica Patrick, whom he dated for over two years until their split in 2020. Rodgers claimed that Patrick was depressed following her retirement, noting a lack of intimacy toward the end. Patrick has previously characterized the relationship as emotionally abusive.
Rodgers also reflected on his current wife, Brittany, whom he met in 2017. He expressed regret for not convincing her to stay when she moved to Europe years ago, admitting that he was emotionally unavailable for several years because he had already met the person who changed his life.
