Returning to Israel: Alex Tyus has signed with Hapoel Haifa
The team from the National League has added the 38-year-old center. Coach Sharon Drucker: "We are happy that he chose to continue his career with us, in the red family."
Hapoel Haifa announced on Monday the signing of veteran center Alex Tyus for the 2026/27 season. For the 38-year-old naturalized player, this will be his fourth stop in Israel and his sixth overall, having previously played for Maccabi Ashdod, Hapoel Jerusalem, and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Tyus arrives after a successful season with Piza Bulls in the Turkish second division, which he helped promote to the top league. He averaged 9.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 26 minutes per game, and will now try to help Hapoel Haifa meet its main goal — promotion to the Super League. The center has a rich career in European basketball, with his peak moment coming in 2014, when he was a key contributor to Maccabi Tel Aviv's EuroLeague title win.
Hapoel Haifa owner Adir Sabag said after the signing:
"We are committed to the fans and our goal — a high-quality team that will fight for promotion. I am happy that we managed to bring in a player of Alex Tyus's level. He is an excellent player from the high levels of Europe, and I am sure he will help us meet our goals this season."
Coach Sharon Drucker also welcomed the addition:
"Alex is a well-known and proven player in the country. We are happy that he chose to continue his career with us, in the red family. We saw a lot of him in Turkey last year, and he still has plenty left in the tank. It's great that he is with us."
