David Beckham and Michael Jordan, two of the most iconic and successful athletes in history, crossed paths during a vacation in Ibiza. The sports legends were seen spending time together with their wives at a luxury restaurant on the Spanish island.
Beckham, 51, arrived with his wife Victoria, while Jordan, 63, was accompanied by his wife, Yvette Prieto. The two were spotted chatting on a pier near the restaurant, with Beckham smiling as he looked up at the NBA icon.
Several stars of the Spanish national team, including Ferran Torres and Marcos Llorente, who were also vacationing in the Balearic Islands, joined the pair at the venue.
This meeting represents more than just a chance encounter. Beckham has long cited Jordan as one of his greatest idols, even choosing to wear the number 23 jersey after his 2003 move from Manchester United to Real Madrid as a tribute to the Chicago Bulls legend.
In his autobiography, Beckham recounted their first meeting at a London restaurant: "We looked across the room and saw him—Michael Jordan, sitting in the corner smoking the biggest cigar I have ever seen." Beckham admitted he was so starstruck he could barely touch his food, prompting Victoria to tell him to stop embarrassing them.
Over the years, that admiration turned into friendship. During Beckham’s time in Los Angeles, the two exchanged numbers and kept in touch. The former footballer even turned to Jordan for advice, such as seeking restaurant recommendations when visiting Washington.
Jordan’s influence extended beyond shirt numbers and dinner tips. Beckham revealed that the documentary series "The Last Dance" served as a major inspiration for his own Netflix documentary, "Beckham." "I love everything about Michael Jordan," Beckham said. "His career, his persona, and his business acumen are truly inspiring."
