Reports: Iranian missiles intercepted over Jordan, defense systems activated in Kuwait
A senior US official stated that Washington is currently not aware of any fire directed at US bases in Jordan.
The Saudi Al-Hadath channel reported the interception of Iranian missiles over northern Jordan. At the same time, air defense systems were activated in Kuwait.
It remains unclear what the targets of the intercepted missiles were. A senior US official stated that the United States is not aware at this stage of any fire directed at US bases in the country.
These reports follow claims by Iranian media yesterday that at least 13 military personnel and members of the Revolutionary Guards were killed in American strikes this week.
The developments occur against the backdrop of the Donald Trump administration's efforts to avoid further escalation in the conflict with Iran in the near future. Reuters reported last Wednesday that senior aides to President Donald Trump are seeking to prevent escalation ahead of the November elections in an attempt to reduce expected losses for the Republicans.
According to sources, the White House may consider increasing military action against Iran after the November 3 elections, though this is far from a final decision. The administration is currently focused on increasing economic pressure on Tehran to secure concessions in future negotiations.
"We continue to exert pressure on Iran," a senior White House official told Reuters, "but November is the priority."
