Report for Al-Sisi: The US will not rush to rebuild the Gaza Strip
Jared Kushner's regional visit concluded without a breakthrough regarding the future of the Gaza Strip. According to Arab reports, the US prefers to invest in security at this stage, leaving reconstruction and the disarmament of Hamas as unresolved issues.
Despite the optimism expressed by Egypt ahead of the visit by US President Donald Trump's envoy, Jared Kushner, the meetings held in recent days did not lead to a real breakthrough regarding the future of the Gaza Strip. The Lebanese newspaper "Al-Akhbar", affiliated with Hezbollah and the resistance axis, reported on Thursday, citing Egyptian sources, that Egyptian intelligence had submitted a report to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi stating that Washington is not interested at this stage in fundamental changes in the Strip and does not view its reconstruction as an urgent goal.
According to Egyptian assessments, the US prefers to manage the crisis primarily through humanitarian and security channels, avoiding commitments to broad reconstruction. Cited reasons include potential funding difficulties and Israeli concerns that tunnels and weaponry would remain in the Strip even after reconstruction begins.
Cairo is disappointed with the American position
Sources speaking to "Al-Akhbar" noted that Cairo is disappointed by Washington's lack of opposition to the status quo, provided that relative quiet is maintained. The report submitted to Al-Sisi claims that while the Americans continue to pressure Israel occasionally, they are not interested in deep involvement to solve the crisis fundamentally.
During recent contacts, the possibility of a large-scale Palestinian exodus from the Strip was indirectly raised. Egypt continues to firmly oppose this, fearing that any mass departure would become a permanent displacement of Gaza residents.
Hamas presented a political vision
The Saudi newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat" reported that the meeting between Hamas representatives and Kushner, Nickolay Mladenov, and Tony Blair was described by a source as "very good". Hamas expressed readiness to become a "political and social party" as part of a post-war settlement. However, this does not signify an agreement on disarmament, which remains a fundamental demand of Israel and the Trump plan.
Palestinian factions are examining "Kushner's answers"
"Al-Quds Al-Arabi" reports that Palestinian factions are preparing to discuss the "Kushner's answers" provided during recent talks. This reinforces the assessment that the round of negotiations ended without final agreements, with key issues still under discussion.
The US is investing in security, not necessarily reconstruction
Alongside the pessimistic reports from Egypt, "Sky News Arabia" reported that the Trump administration has notified Congress of its intention to allocate over $206 million to support international stabilization forces in the Gaza Strip. This highlights a clear distinction: Washington is willing to fund security mechanisms to stabilize the area, but is not yet ready to commit to the broad physical and economic reconstruction of Gaza.
