Shock at St. James' Park: According to a report by the BBC, Eddie Howe is set to leave Newcastle immediately. The 48-year-old coach concluded a disappointing 2025/26 campaign, with his team finishing 12th in the Premier League after suffering 17 losses in 38 rounds. His final appearance on the sidelines for the club was apparently yesterday (Wednesday), as Newcastle fell 4:1 to Bristol City in a pre-season friendly.

Howe was appointed manager in November 2021, replacing Steve Bruce, and led the club through one of its most successful periods in recent decades. In 2025, he ended the club's 70-year trophy drought by winning the English League Cup with a 2:1 victory over Liverpool. Additionally, he guided Newcastle to the Champions League twice (2023 and 2025). Last season, the team reached the round of 16 in the continent's top competition, where they were eliminated by Barcelona with an 8:3 aggregate loss. While the team reached the League Cup semi-finals, the primary disappointment remained their league performance, sliding to 12th place just one year after finishing fifth. In the summer of 2025, Newcastle invested approximately 240 million pounds in new signings, but this summer they parted ways with two stars — Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, who were sold to Tottenham and Barcelona, respectively.
