CBS report: US and Israel discussed joint strike on Iran this weekend

The United States and Israel are planning one of the most significant bombing operations to date against Iran’s energy infrastructure, CBS reported this evening, citing several sources. According to the report, strikes could be carried out over the weekend to conclude before the stock market opens on Monday, amid concerns regarding the impact on the global economy and the United States. However, it is claimed that the date has not yet been finalized.

According to several American sources, Israel has been updated on the plans and is coordinating moves with the US. However, the president has not yet issued a final instruction.

If Israel decides to join the strikes, it would mark its return to combat following the ceasefire, excluding brief exchanges of fire after launches into Israel.

According to sources briefed on the matter, the strike plan was discussed during a cabinet meeting held by President Donald Trump yesterday at Camp David. One source noted that some of Trump’s political advisers expressed strong opposition to the move.

Two sources told CBS that potential targets include energy infrastructure facilities, such as power stations and refineries.

White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt stated in response to CBS:

"As President Trump said in the cabinet meeting, the US will win, and Iran will not have nuclear weapons during his term."

A senior Israeli official told the network that when President Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met on Tuesday, the latter presented three alternatives for continuing the war, including military strikes focused on land supply routes.

Yesterday, high-level discussions took place in the US regarding the possibility of cutting off electricity supply across Tehran, but no decision has been reached.
