Report: Daniel Theis on the verge of signing with Maccabi Tel Aviv

Maccabi Tel Aviv may soon add another big name to its frontcourt, according to a report by journalist Donatas Urbonas from 'BasketNews'. Veteran German center Daniel Theis is on the verge of signing with the 'Yellows'. The player is reportedly leaning toward the offer from the Israeli champion despite interest from several other EuroLeague teams.
Theis (34, 2.06 m) was previously on the verge of joining the French club ASVEL, and club owner Tony Parker confirmed in late June that the parties were close to an agreement. However, in recent weeks, the French club has fallen into a significant financial crisis, which has completely changed the situation. According to a report in 'L'Équipe', ASVEL will be forced to operate in the 2026/27 season with a significantly lower budget than planned due to financial difficulties.
The crisis led to the departure of several key players, including Sylvain Francisco, who has already signed with Panathinaikos, opening the door for Maccabi Tel Aviv to recruit the German center. If the deal goes through, Maccabi will receive a significant boost in the form of one of the most experienced and proven frontcourt players in Europe.
Theis spent several years in the NBA, playing for the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers, among others, before returning to Europe and becoming a pillar of Monaco. In the 2024/25 season, he averaged 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, helping Monaco reach the tournament final. In the past season, he maintained his consistency, averaging 9.7 points and 5.0 rebounds across 38 games.
