Report in Lebanon: US limited Israeli response to Hezbollah violations
According to the newspaper "Nidaa al-Watan", Washington acted to reduce the scope of strikes in southern Lebanon. A Lebanese source said that the government in Beirut conducted contacts to curb the escalation, but Hezbollah did not cooperate.
The Lebanese newspaper "Nidaa al-Watan" reported today, Thursday, that the US acted to curb the escalation in southern Lebanon, especially after the fall of two IDF soldiers, and succeeded in limiting the Israeli response to prevent the situation on the ground from harming progress at the negotiating table. According to the report, the US intervention saved the third day of negotiations in Rome and prevented an explosion in the talks.
A Lebanese source said that the Lebanese government acted on its own to curb the tension in southern Lebanon through a series of diplomatic and security contacts. However, according to the source, the terrorist organization Hezbollah did not cooperate, and Israel insisted on carrying out strikes against threats, which pushed the situation toward a possible escalation.
The official explained:
"All options are open, and therefore the state is trying to take all necessary measures to stop the escalation and return to negotiations, in light of American pressure to resolve things in a peaceful way and not to miss the opportunity."
Meanwhile, the Arab channel "Al-Hadath" reported that the discussions in Rome are expected to also deal with the file of Hezbollah detainees. According to the report, the Lebanese delegation is demanding to expand the pilot zones for the withdrawal of the IDF in southern Lebanon and is waiting for an Israeli response regarding the establishment of a ceasefire.
Lebanese sources told the newspaper "Ad-Diyar" that there has been progress in the negotiation tracks, mainly on the border issue and points that have not yet been resolved. Along with this, the issue of expanding the pilot zones remains in dispute, and no conclusion has been reached.
It was further reported that there has been progress regarding the verification mechanism and the identity of the third party that will supervise that the pilot zones are indeed cleared of Hezbollah weapons. The border issue continues to be one of the central topics on the discussion table, and the Lebanese side believes that significant progress has been recorded on it.
Meanwhile, the IDF Spokesperson published data on the multiple terrorist infrastructures in villages near southern Lebanon, a few kilometers from Israeli communities.
