Rani Rahav in deep mourning: 'A giant of his generation. He will be remembered forever'
Media personality Rani Rahav says goodbye to Prof. Avi Degani, founder of "Geocartography," who passed away at the age of 88. "He made history in his lifetime," Rahav eulogized the pioneer of market research who contributed greatly to shaping the country.
Professor Avraham (Avi) Degani passed away yesterday, Tuesday, at the age of 88. Following the sad news, media and public relations personality Rani Rahav published moving words of eulogy in memory of Degani, who founded and served as president of the "Geocartography" group.
"Professor Degani, a giant of his generation, made history in his lifetime together with his wife, Dr. Rina Degani. He will be remembered forever," wrote Rahav, describing the rich legacy the deceased left behind.
Degani, a Tel Aviv native who served in the Golani Brigade, was considered one of the pioneers of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Israel. Together with his wife, he established "Geocartography," which combined market research, public opinion research, urban planning, and real estate. His face became familiar in every living room in Israel thanks to his appearances in the media as an expert on polls.
In addition to his research work, his contribution to his hometown of Tel Aviv was highly significant. He was involved in strategic projects, including the rehabilitation of the Hatikva neighborhood, the development of the Sarona complex, and the Dizengoff Center.
Furthermore, he is credited with involvement in coining the city's legendary slogan — "Tel Aviv, the city that never stops." His work received recognition when, in 2023, he was awarded the title of "Worthy Citizen of Tel Aviv-Yafo" and the "Worthy Planner" award.
