IDF Declares Ramim Ridge Slopes Closed Military Zone After New Ordnances Found
The Ramim Ridge slopes were declared a closed military zone on Friday after new unexploded rockets were found, weeks after a teenager's death.
The slopes of the Ramim Ridge, where a 14-year-old boy was killed earlier this month by unexploded ordnance during a school trip, were declared a closed military zone on Friday following the discovery of additional unexploded shells and rocket remnants in the area.
The Kiryat Shmona municipality issued an urgent notice to residents and travelers, stating that the zone between Margaliot and Kiryat Shmona has been cordoned off. IDF forces are currently operating in the area to locate and clear the hazardous items, with sweeps expected to continue through Saturday. Authorities urged the public to strictly avoid the area, comply with security directives, and immediately report any suspicious objects to the Israel Police by dialing 100.
Earlier this month, Elazar Yair Vilensky was killed and 24 other students and teachers were injured during a field trip near Mitzpe Fear, roughly 50 to 100 meters from the border. The incident occurred near a military outpost that was manned by combat engineering troops throughout the war, drawing heavy rocket fire from Hezbollah. Investigators believe the fatal device was an unexploded Hezbollah munition hidden by dense vegetation in the rugged terrain.
