An investigation into the fatal hiking accident of teenager Yair Vilensky on the Ramim Ridge reveals alarming contradictions in the Ministry of Education's trail approval process and a lack of clear field guidelines.

The Ministry's situation room approved a route named "Israel Trail 2051," which merges two completely different parallel paths—one of which remains officially closed due to wartime damage. Near the junction at Kfar Giladi, two distinct trails begin. The first is the Israel Trail, marked in orange, blue, and white, climbing the mountain slope. The second, known on maps as "Trail 2051," is a paved green-marked path designated as the Ramim Ridge scenic route.

Over a 7.5-kilometer stretch, these two paths run entirely separate until merging near Ein Chorim. Following the tragedy, it became clear that this short distance, combined with contradictory Ministry instructions, ended in disaster. The group was authorized to hike from Kfar Giladi to Mishkenot HaRo'im on a route labeled "Israel Trail 2051." Simultaneously, the permit noted that the Ramim Ridge scenic route was closed due to wartime restoration.

Tour guides have sharply criticized the Ministry of Education's approval mechanisms, pointing to a disconnect between air-conditioned offices and the realities of terrain exposed to Hezbollah fire for over two years. One senior guide stated, "It is unacceptable for a route to be approved with contradictory restrictions. If these are different paths, they must be treated as such."

The Ministry of Education stated in response: "The ministry acted in accordance with KKL restrictions and prohibited activities in the restricted area due to war damage. The planned route was not in the forbidden zone. The circumstances of the incident and the exact route taken are currently being investigated by the IDF and the police, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education."
