Yafit Levy-Atias, CEO of the Rami Levy chain, currently manages an empire with billions in turnover, but it turns out that her economic perception was shaped far from board meetings, mainly around the family Shabbat table.
In an interview for the podcast "Medabrim Ochel" (Talking Food) from Walla, hosted by Ron Yohananov, Levy-Atias looked back at the past and shared the extraordinary upbringing she received from her father, who made sure to remind his children that there is a complex economic reality outside their home.
"My father all the time, every Friday, every meal, would say: there are people who have nothing, there are people who have it harder. Do not forget this. What you have received now is a blessing from God, share, share, share."
These lessons from the past accompany her even today, when she sits in the CEO's chair and has to make decisions that affect the pockets of many consumers. When the conversation touched on the development of the chain's private label, she emphasized that the goal is not to compromise on quality, but to make it accessible to the economic reality of Israelis.
Yohananov reminded her in the interview how she demanded from him in the past to create products that would not break the bank for customers, while declaring: "I want the quality, and I want it at a price that will enter every home in Israel."
Despite her business success, Levy-Atias maintains a modest perspective regarding money and status, and explains how the values from home prevent her from being blinded by wealth. "First of all, remember that all people are equal in the eyes of God," she clarified in the interview and added firmly that "people are not measured by what they have."
According to her, economic success comes with great social responsibility that cannot be ignored. "There is no problem enjoying what you earn," she concluded, "as long as it is not in a place of showing off. But to know that even from what you have received, you must know how to share. To know how you touch other people."
