Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. has announced the successful completion of tests for its advanced SPYDER air defense system, equipped with I-DERBY ER and I-DERBY LR missiles.

The tests, conducted in Israel, simulated a variety of current and future threats. The system successfully intercepted multiple targets, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with low radar signatures, in a challenging operational profile, achieving direct and precise hits (Hit to Kill).

Rafael continues to develop the SPYDER system, upgrading its capabilities to adapt to the evolving battlefield. The tests incorporated updates based on lessons from the war in Israel and operational experience gained in other theaters worldwide, as part of the ongoing development of the system.

SPYDER is a mobile air defense system based on Rafael’s PYTHON and I-DERBY air-to-air missiles, operating as part of a multi-layered defense concept. Designed to intercept a wide range of aerial threats, the system’s modular architecture and fast response time provide effective protection for strategic assets in both stationary and mobile missions.

Its proven operational capabilities and flexibility have made SPYDER a leading air defense system globally. It is currently in service with major customers, including NATO and European Union member states.

Recently, Romania selected the SPYDER system as part of a large-scale deal to protect its airspace. This follows the selection by the Czech Republic, which signed a supply agreement with the Ministry of Defense and Rafael in 2020. These choices reflect the growing confidence European nations have in the system's ability to counter evolving aerial threats.

Yoav Turgeman, CEO of Rafael, stated:

"Rafael is a global leader and a powerhouse for combat-proven air defense systems that provide responses to complex threats at various ranges. Among our leading systems currently in operational use in Israel and around the world are the Iron Dome, David's Sling, and SPYDER. The successful test reflects our commitment to developing advanced capabilities based on operational experience, technological innovation, and the implementation of lessons learned to ensure an optimal response to threats evolving in various arenas."

He added in conclusion:

"The repeated selection of the SPYDER system by many countries around the world, including Romania recently, reflects the growing trust in its operational capabilities and its suitability for the air defense needs of countries seeking to deal with a complex and changing threat environment."
