Rabbi Dov Lando Slams Opposition Leaders Over Yeshiva Persecution in London
Rabbi Dov Lando criticized opposition bloc leaders during a London address, denouncing the persecution of yeshiva students amid coalition talks. The remarks come as political figures weigh courting ultra-Orthodox parties.

Rabbi Dov Lando, leader of the Lithuanian-Haredi community in Israel, launched a scathing critique against leaders of the opposition bloc during a speech in London, denouncing what he described as unprecedented persecution and humiliation of yeshiva students.
Speaking at a special fundraising dinner for the Olam HaTorah Fund at the Pillar Hotel in London, Rabbi Lando stated that politicians who were once bitter rivals are now competing with one another over who can hurl more insults at Torah scholars. "Ignorant individuals are humiliating yeshiva students, treating Torah scholars with contempt and disgrace," the rabbi declared, adding that the current climate against the ultra-Orthodox community is unlike anything seen before.
The remarks come in the wake of a political meeting held by opposition bloc leaders in Herzliya, where discussions centered on forming a potential new government. While the bloc ruled out cooperation with Arab factions during those meetings, the possibility of courting ultra-Orthodox parties to join a future coalition has remained on the table, sparking sharp public discourse.
During his address, Rabbi Lando warned that decrees and restrictions imposed by authorities against yeshiva students and kollel avreichim are escalating daily. He expressed deep gratitude to London’s Jewish community for their steadfast financial and moral support of Israel's Torah institutions, emphasizing that international solidarity provides vital encouragement to scholars struggling amid financial hardship and political pressure.
"The situation facing the world of Torah in the land of Israel is unprecedented," Rabbi Lando said, calling upon supporters to maximize their efforts on behalf of religious institutions. He concluded his address with a blessing for protection, divine assistance, and ultimate redemption.
