What is going on? Infantino congratulates Mbappé three weeks after the World Cup

As part of a plan to establish a commercial entity, FIFA President Gianni Infantino considered opening 20% of the organization's capital to private investors. Since then, he has faced harsh criticism, and now, as he is reportedly on the verge of resignation, the Swiss official published a strange post on Instagram praising Kylian Mbappé for his performances in the World Cup, which, as we recall, ended on July 19.

Infantino's media move has raised many questions. On his Instagram account, the FIFA President wrote:

"The amazing Kylian Mbappé completed a double achievement at the World Cup, winning the Golden Boot for the second consecutive time thanks to the ten goals he scored in the tournament in North America. The captain of the French national team also set several records, including becoming the top scorer in the history of the World Cup and in the history of the French national team."

This publication, about three weeks after France's elimination in the semi-finals against Spain, comes at a time when Infantino is under particularly heavy pressure. On August 1, the FIFA President was forced to abandon his plan to establish a commercial company intended to increase the organization's revenues, mainly from the World Cup. The initiative sparked fierce opposition in the football world, especially from UEFA.

Since then, it seems that Infantino's position has been shaken. The FIFA President is looking for public support, but at this stage, it is not forthcoming. Therefore, it is not impossible that he is trying to gain Mbappé's support through this post.

FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström sent a long email to all organization employees on Tuesday morning in a particularly firm tone. The message may mark a turning point in the crisis facing Infantino, from whom even Arsène Wenger has distanced himself.
