Four new Guinness World Records: Erling Haaland continues to make history
The Manchester City star received official certificates from the Guinness World Records for the number of goals in a single Champions League match, the goal record for a Nations League campaign, the highest number of goals in a single Premier League season, and for being the player who reached 100 goals in the English league the fastest.
Erling Haaland has long been accustomed to breaking records, but now his achievements have received an official stamp. The Manchester City striker received four new Guinness World Records certificates following his impressive achievements for his club and the Norway national team.
Haaland, 26, currently holds a record of 162 goals in 198 appearances for Manchester City, and he is also the all-time top scorer for the Norway national team, with 62 goals in just 55 matches. Since arriving in Manchester in the summer of 2022, he has already helped City win six major titles, including the treble in the 2022/23 season.
The first record for which Haaland received a certificate is the most goals in a single Champions League match. The Norwegian scored five goals in a 0:7 victory over RB Leipzig in the round of 16 of the tournament in March 2023. He shares the record with Lionel Messi, who scored five goals for Barcelona against Bayer Leverkusen in 2012, and with Luiz Adriano, who did so for Shakhtar Donetsk against BATE Borisov in 2014.
The second record refers to the national team: 19 goals in the Nations League, more than any other player in the history of the tournament. Haaland is four goals ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Aleksandar Mitrović.
The third certificate was given to him for the most goals in a single Premier League season. In his debut season in England, 2022/23, Haaland scored 36 goals - breaking the previous record of Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, which stood at 34 goals in an era when the season included 42 matches.
The fourth record perhaps illustrates better than anything the unusual pace at which Haaland scores: he is the fastest player in Premier League history to reach 100 goals. The Norwegian did so in just 111 matches, scoring his 100th goal against Fulham last December. In doing so, he broke Alan Shearer's record by 13 matches.
Haaland also appears on the cover of the 2027 edition of the Guinness World Records book. On Sunday, he will start another season with Manchester City in the Community Shield match against Arsenal and will hope to continue his journey toward breaking more records.
