In the background stands the criticism in Spain regarding Rabat and its conduct during the events two weeks ago, when officials in the Spanish police as well as voices in the political system accused Morocco of deliberately refraining from acting against the infiltrators.
Sources in the Spanish police told "El País" that the operation proves their claim that Morocco is capable of blocking migration when it is determined to do so. "This time they acted with full force and no one arrived. This proves that Rabat, when it wants to, blocks the passage for illegal migrants trying to reach the border," a senior police officer told the Spanish newspaper.
