Lawsuit against Donald Trump: Selling early access to presidential posts
A new lawsuit against the US President demands to stop the service selling early access to official White House messages on Truth Social: "A clear violation of the Constitution."
Two media companies have filed a lawsuit in the Manhattan federal court against US President Donald Trump, demanding the closure of a new service that offers paid early access to his posts on his social network, Truth Social.
The lawsuit, filed by The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation, targets a feed called Truth API. The service, operated by the Trump Media & Technology Group, charges up to $100,000 per month for early access to 10 prominent accounts on the platform, including the president's personal account.
The Truth API service was launched on August 1, just four days after Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff appealed to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, demanding an investigation into whether the service harms financial market integrity while enriching Wall Street, wealthy associates, and Donald Trump himself.
The plaintiffs are seeking to prevent the White House from publishing official government messages exclusively on Truth Social as long as the paid feed operates. Donald Trump has long used the platform to reveal news with significant market impact, such as updates on tariffs and conflicts in the Middle East. According to the lawsuit, many of the 9,000 to 11,000 messages posted by Donald Trump during his second term were never accompanied by official White House statements.
"The service is completely corrupt, as the president profits financially from subscriber registrations. Furthermore, it violates the First Amendment to the US Constitution, as the public is entitled to equal access to the president's messages," the lawsuit claims.
Donald Trump is the largest shareholder in Trump Media, holding a 41.3% stake valued at approximately $950 million through the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust. His eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., serves as a director of the company. In addition to the president's account, the service offers paid early access to the accounts of Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and FBI Director Kash Patel.
The White House provided no comment. A spokesperson for Trump Media claimed that activists are attempting to abuse the courts to censor the president. During a Monday conference call, interim CEO Kevin McGovern noted that the Truth API service allows subscribers to receive news a "split second faster" than the general public.
