For the first time since October 7: Chile and Honduras return ambassadors to Israel
President Isaac Herzog received the credentials of six new ambassadors, including those from Chile and Honduras, who have returned to Israel for the first time since the war began three years ago.
President of the State of Israel Isaac Herzog received the credentials of six new ambassadors on Monday, who have officially begun their posts in Israel. Among them are the ambassadors of Chile and Honduras, who have returned to the country for the first time since the outbreak of the war nearly three years ago.
The credentials were submitted by the ambassadors of Sri Lanka, Saman Kumar Chandrasiriyе; Georgia, Beka Dvali; Nigeria, Nkechi Linda Ofotsuohuo; Germany, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff; Chile, Gabriel Alejandro Zeliásnik Shilkrout; and Honduras, Jose Luis Nunez Bent, during a series of official ceremonies at the President’s residence.
Upon their arrival, the IDF Orchestra played the national anthems of each country, followed by an inspection of the Honor Guard. After the formal submission of credentials, the President held private meetings with each ambassador, who then signed the official guest book.
During his meeting with the Chilean ambassador, the President addressed the work of the Peace Council:
“You rightly pointed to the pogrom and the terrible atrocities of October 7 and to where we are three years later. We are still dealing with the pain and trauma, but we are also rebuilding and building anew every day. I believe that now, together with the many efforts of President Donald Trump’s Peace Council, we will be able to find ways and hold dialogue with our neighbors on all fronts. There are many positive steps in the Peace Council’s efforts under the leadership of President Trump.”
The President also noted the significance of the 20-point plan adopted by the UN Security Council:
“I think that the 20-point plan constitutes a very positive step, provided there is a clear commitment to dismantle Hamas of its weapons, and I hope that Hamas will be completely disarmed. This is clearly the basis for moving forward to the next stage through the introduction of a technocratic government, which, with the help of the efforts of President Trump, the Peace Council, and the Secretary-General of the Peace Council, Nikolai Mladenov, can bring a vision of hope — both for the residents of Gaza and for the people of Israel.”
