For 50 shekels: 74-year-old accused of transporting two illegal aliens from Gaza
Police officers stopped a vehicle in Kafr Kanna after one of its passengers tried to hide, and found two residents of the Gaza Strip inside who were in Israel without a permit. The driver, Mahmoud Khatib, admitted that he transported them to their place of work for 50 shekels; indictments and requests for detention until the end of proceedings were filed against the three.
Mahmoud Khatib, a 74-year-old resident of Kafr Kanna, is accused of transporting two residents of the Gaza Strip who were in Israel without a permit in exchange for 50 shekels. On Tuesday, indictments and requests for detention until the end of proceedings were filed against the three at the Magistrate's Court in Nazareth.
According to the indictment, last week, patrol officers from the Northern District spotted a Skoda vehicle driving in Kafr Kanna. One of the passengers, who noticed the police car, sharply lowered his head in an attempt to hide.
The officers stopped the vehicle for inspection and discovered inside two residents of the Gaza Strip, aged 37 and 54, who were in Israel without legal permits.
During his interrogation, Khatib admitted that he was transporting the two from their place of stay in Kafr Kanna to their place of work in exchange for a payment of 50 shekels for the ride.
At the end of the investigation, the Nazareth North prosecution branch filed indictments against Khatib for transporting illegal aliens, and against the two passengers for illegal stay in Israel.
