Police Finalize Probe into Suspect Who Tampered with Prinook Products
Israel Police are concluding the investigation into Yan Shmal, who allegedly injected anesthetics into Prinook products in Jerusalem and returned them to store shelves.
The Israel Police announced today (Wednesday) that the investigation into the tampering of "Prinook" products with anesthetics is nearing its conclusion. According to the suspicion, Yan Shmal, a resident of Beer-Sheva, purchased Prinook products from two "Zol VeGadol" branches in Jerusalem, injected anesthetics into them, and then returned them to the shelves. A prosecutor's statement will soon be filed by the police ahead of an indictment in the coming days.
Investigators attempted to determine the motive behind these severe actions, but without success. Shmal linked himself to the incidents during the interrogation but did not cooperate regarding the reasoning behind the act. Police hold documentation that led to the breakthrough, which came into their possession about three weeks ago. Alongside the prosecutor's statement and the indictment, a request will be submitted to detain Shmal until the end of the legal proceedings.
Toward the end of August, a breakthrough revealed the identity of the southern resident in his 40s suspected of involvement in the case. The suspect was arrested at his home and taken for questioning. Police stated that investigators are examining the suspected involvement of additional individuals.
