Israel Police Report Decline in Homicides and West Bank Terror Attacks

A total of 209 people have been murdered in Israel since the beginning of the year, compared to 229 homicides in 2025, according to data presented on Tuesday by the Israel Police. Out of this year's victims, 166 are Arab citizens who were killed in 144 separate incidents, compared to 176 victims across 154 incidents in 2025.

Police officials estimate that if current trends persist, the year will conclude with a lower homicide toll than 2025. Authorities attribute this decline to an assertive enforcement policy targeting major organized crime syndicates, specifically the organizations led by Hariri, Bakri, and Abu Latif.

At the same time, law enforcement reported a concerning surge in the deployment of grenades and shoulder-launched missiles. While roughly 75 grenade-throwing incidents were documented in 2023, the figure surpassed 100 cases in 2025, and that threshold has already been breached again this year. Police highlighted growing fears that a portion of these advanced weaponry supplies has been stolen from IDF assembly areas amid ongoing wartime operations.

In response, the Israel Police and the Shin Bet have intensified joint operations. A police official noted that hundreds of firearms, explosive devices, and grenades are intercepted weekly, though completely eliminating the illicit supply remains a challenge.

Meanwhile, the West Bank has seen a notable decrease in terror attacks, with 24 incidents recorded since the year's start, down from 39 in 2025 and 91 in 2024. These statistics follow a deadly shooting attack near Neve Tzuf that claimed the life of Netanel Shakron, a father of six from Alei Zahav. Police credit the overall regional drop to reinforced security deployments by the Judea and Samaria District and Border Police, alongside strategic decisions to maintain troop levels in the sector.
