Polish state television TVP reported that local police successfully apprehended the suspect not far from the incident location. Footage published online captured a gunman firing an automatic weapon from the window of a black Subaru, drawing large police forces to the major tourist hub.

Emergency services deployed heavily to the area, landing a helicopter in the central square to evacuate the wounded to nearby hospitals. Social media videos later showed an armed individual lying on the pavement near a vehicle matching the shooter's car.
