More than a decade later: Rupert Grint returns to play Ron Weasley
The British actor returns to the school of wizardry as Harry's best friend and will join the cast of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" on Broadway. He will make his stage debut in February 2027 and will perform in the production until the end of May. If you have also missed him, we have happy news: more than a decade after parting with the character who made him a star, Grint is returning to Ron's shoes, this time on the Broadway stage.
On Thursday, it was learned that Grint will join the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway this coming winter. He will make his stage debut in the role on February 2, 2027, and is expected to remain in the production for 17 weeks, until May 30. "Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11, and I can't wait to meet him again at this stage of life," said Grint. "There is something so special about stepping back into Ron's shoes now that we are both fathers. It is somehow very familiar and also completely new. And the opportunity to return to Broadway, this time in a role that defined such a large part of my life, really excites me."
Grint is the second actor from the film series to join the Broadway production of the play, after Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the films. According to the production, Felton's casting boosted ticket sales, and he is expected to remain in the play until January 3, 2027 — meaning, unfortunately, Grint and Felton are not expected to share the stage.
This will not be Grint's first time on the Broadway stage: in 2014 he participated in the production of It's Only a Play, and later moved to the London stage, where he played in the play Mojo. Since the Harry Potter films, he has continued to work in film and television, including in the series Servant on Apple TV and in the film Nightborn, which premiered at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival. We will soon see him also in the film Scrooge, which is expected to be released in the fall.
