Flash floods and mudslides struck large areas of Thailand's Phuket island overnight following torrential downpours that dumped 142.8mm of rain in 24 hours at one monitoring station. All three districts of the southern tourist hub, including Phuket City and Patong, were affected by the severe weather, leaving around 100 households impacted.

Phuket Deputy Governor Romdon Huayrak confirmed that no casualties or major injuries have been reported so far. While water levels began to recede by noon, several low-lying areas remained submerged, prompting authorities to advise drivers of small vehicles to avoid flooded routes. Mudslides also hit parts of the island, with crews working to clear debris from drainage canals to prevent further blockages.

Footage shared online showed muddy torrents sweeping through streets, swamping shops, and partially burying vehicles in rock and sediment. The Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings for continued heavy rainfall across southern Thailand through Wednesday, raising concerns over additional flash floods.

Severe flooding has impacted various parts of Thailand since mid-September. According to the Department for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, at least 83 fatalities have been recorded nationwide. Late last month, torrential rains also inundated Bangkok, forcing thousands to evacuate amid widespread disruptions.
