American singer Chris Brown has been sentenced to an eight-month suspended prison term with 12 months of probation following a 2023 nightclub assault in London.

Brown, who pleaded guilty in July at Southwark Crown Court to a charge of affray, will avoid immediate imprisonment. Judge Tony Baumgartner emphasized during the sentencing that professional success and commercial fame do not grant immunity, stating that the law applies equally to everyone.

The co-defendant, Florida-based rapper Omololu Akinlolu, known as HoodyBaby and identified as Brown's vocal coach, also pleaded guilty to affray and received a four-month suspended sentence with 12 months of probation.

The incident took place in February 2023 at the Tape London nightclub, where the pair attacked music producer Abraham Diaw. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, Brown struck Diaw twice over the head with a tequila bottle while Akinlolu punched him, continuing the assault as the victim attempted to flee and kicking him while he sat defenseless on the floor.

Diaw sought hospital treatment for head and knee injuries, prompting the issuance of arrest warrants after the suspects left the United Kingdom. Brown was arrested in May 2025 upon returning to the UK for a world tour performance in Manchester. Senior Crown Prosecutor Claire Campbell described the attack as brutal and unprovoked, noting the use of a glass bottle as a weapon in a crowded venue.
