Woman Murdered by Husband in Petah Tikva in Front of Children
A woman in her 40s was murdered by her husband in Petah Tikva in front of their children, marking the 25th domestic homicide of 2026. Advocacy groups report a sharp surge in domestic violence and demand urgent government action.
A woman in her 40s was found dead in her Petah Tikva apartment early Monday, becoming the 25th victim of domestic homicide in 2026. According to police and the Michal Sela Forum, the victim was allegedly beaten to death with a cleaver by her husband in front of their children. One of the children managed to call the police during the harrowing incident.
The suspect subsequently took his own life, and his body was discovered on a nearby street. Data released by the Michal Sela Forum indicates a sharp escalation in domestic violence, noting a 135% increase in spousal murders since the beginning of October compared to previous months. The forum emphasized that since October 7, 2023, some 84 people have been killed in domestic incidents, including 72 women and eight children, marking a 37% surge overall.
Call for Action and Systemic Reform
Tal Hochman, CEO of the Israel Women's Network, sharply criticized authorities following the tragedy. "While politicians are busy playing musical chairs, a murderer brutally took a woman's life in front of her children," Hochman stated. She stressed that domestic violence never starts with murder and pointed to recent killings, including those of Tamara Omran and Yana Zikova, as stark warnings.
Women's advocacy groups have called on law enforcement and the government to prioritize personal security and establish effective protection frameworks for women at risk. The Michal Sela Forum noted that alongside its partner agencies, it has provided shelter and protection to over 1,100 threatened women and more than 4,200 children at risk since its inception.
