Not quiet in the "Democrats": Yair Golan considers reserving a spot for Einav Zangauker
Tension is growing among list members over the possibility that Yair Golan will reserve a spot for the mother of hostage survivor Matan Zangauker. Candidates and activists express concern that the move will come at their expense and warn of public "noise" if it materializes. The faction clarifies that no decision has been made yet.
A storm has erupted among members of the Democrats party following the possibility that Einav Zangauker, mother of hostage survivor Matan Zangauker, will be reserved a spot on the party list by chairman Yair Golan, who holds the right to reserve the second and tenth spots. The news was revealed following a report in "Ha-Yom".
In a conversation with "Ha-Yom", members of the list expressed dissatisfaction and concern regarding the idea, warning that the move is expected to create "noise" and stir widespread opposition among party activists.
One of the candidates on the list claimed that the role of a reserved spot is to create electoral value and increase the number of votes, while those who admire and support Zangauker are already voting for the party anyway. According to her, the reservation might push other candidates on the list downward without a real return in votes.
In addition, the same candidate noted that Zangauker's political positions do not align with the party's platform:
"This reservation will push people on the list down — and all this for what? Zangauker has declared herself in the past as a right-wing person. Who knows what Benjamin Netanyahu will offer her immediately after the elections so that she will move to the other side?"
Another prominent contestant on the list said that he had not yet received an official update from the faction: "We hear the rumors but do not receive clarification from above, and in the meantime, it is happening under the public's nose." Another activist estimated that if the move is carried out, Golan is expected to do it right near the closing of the lists to reduce opposition.
Critics also warned that key players who might be harmed by it, including Yaya Fink and Moshe Radman, will not let it pass in silence. On the other hand, it was noted that Golan might face issues regarding gender balance on the list if he proceeds.
It should be noted that the party claims the possibility of reserving a spot for Zangauker is still far from being finalized. However, it is already causing resentment among party members who are waiting for an official update.
No response was received from the Democrats party.
