Less than a day after their prestigious victory over France and securing the top spot in Group 1, the Israel youth national team finished the preliminary stage of the European Youth Championship in Italy today, Monday, with an 84:80 victory over Austria. Thus, Nadav Zilberstein's squad maintains a perfect record since the start of the tournament with a third win in three games.
The game, which served as a formality, developed in a closely contested manner as both teams struggled to gain momentum, and the half ended with a narrow Israeli lead of 41:37. The second half remained a balanced battle, but in the decisive moments, Aviv Aronov, David Moses, and Oren Trushkin secured the victory for Israel. The team will rest tomorrow and meet the last-placed team in Group 2 on Wednesday. Barring any surprises, the national team's opponent in the round of 16 is expected to be Denmark.
