Parallel to his visit to the US: About half of Americans support the arrest of Netanyahu
In a poll published in the US, 49% of respondents support the arrest of the Prime Minister in accordance with the International Criminal Court's warrant. A majority of Democrats believe that Netanyahu has damaged US-Israel relations.
About half of Americans believe that the US should arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu based on the arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court, according to a poll by The Economist and YouGov published on Tuesday, in parallel with his visit to the White House.
49% of respondents believe he should be arrested upon his arrival in the US, compared to 27% who believe this should not be done. The gap between the political camps is sharp: among Democrats, 68% support the arrest, and among Republicans, only 24%.
The poll also shows that 47% of Americans believe that Netanyahu's actions have damaged the relationship between the US and Israel. 61% of Democrats hold this position, alongside 30% of Republicans.
On the issue of war crimes in Gaza, 47% of respondents believe Netanyahu is guilty, compared to 24% who answered that he is not. The partisan breakdown repeats itself here as well: 71% of Democrats hold this position, against 20% of Republicans.
The poll also examined American public attitudes toward the war in Iran, finding that 60% believe the US is spending too much money on it, compared to 19% who believe the expenditure is reasonable and only 5% who believe it is too low. 85% of Democrats and 67% of independents believe the expenditure is too high, alongside 28% of Republicans.
Another issue examined concerns the civil nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia, which also came up against the backdrop of the meeting at the White House. 31% of Americans support the US assisting Saudi Arabia in developing nuclear energy for civilian purposes, while 44% oppose it.
Most respondents are concerned about the possession of nuclear weapons by North Korea (85%), Iran (82%), Pakistan (72%), Saudi Arabia (69%), and Israel (64%), and about half (51%) expressed concern about the possession of nuclear weapons by Ukraine.
When asked whether they believe Israel is committing "genocide" against Palestinians, 43% answered in the affirmative. According to YouGov, positions on this issue have hardly changed since September 2025, when 42% of respondents answered this way.
One in five Americans (19%) supports the removal of all Palestinians from Gaza, while 41% oppose it. Among Democrats, support stands at 6% and among independents at 12%. Among Republicans, the proportion of supporters is twice as large as the proportion of opponents (41% vs. 20%), with 51% of those identifying with the MAGA movement supporting the measure.
The meeting at the White House took place while Donald Trump is at a low in the polls. According to the same poll, 34% of Americans are satisfied with his performance as president and 62% are dissatisfied, rates that constitute a negative record for both his terms.
The poll was conducted among 1,559 adult American citizens, and the margin of error is about 3.3%.
