Kushner's father is leaving New York due to "the antisemitism of Mamdani and his wife"
Charles Kushner, the US Ambassador to France and father of Donald Trump's son-in-law, announced that he will move to Florida. In an interview with the New York Post, he sharply criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his wife, claiming that he is not willing to "pay taxes and live in a city with an overtly antisemitic mayor."
Charles Kushner, the US Ambassador to France and father of Jared Kushner, announced that he is leaving New York and moving to Florida, claiming that the main reason for this is what he defines as the "antisemitism" of Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his wife, Rama Dwaik. This was reported on Thursday in the New York Post.
In an interview with the newspaper, Kushner said:
"I don't want to pay taxes and live in a city with an overtly antisemitic mayor and his antisemitic wife. I also don't want to live in a city with the people who voted for him."
According to him, the decision to leave stems less from Mamdani's socialist policies and more from what he described as hostility toward Jews and Israel. Among other things, he mentioned Mamdani's refusal to participate in a march in support of Israel, his call to arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on charges of war crimes, his support for protesters at Columbia University who, according to him, celebrated the Hamas attack, as well as statements by his wife that he claims praised the events of October 7.
Kushner added that he does not respect people who "celebrate murder, rape, and brutality."
"I talk to many people who hold political views different from mine, and I respect their opinion. But I don't respect anyone who celebrates murder, rape, and brutality," he said.
Later in the interview, he also attacked Mamdani's economic messages, referring to a video in which the mayor criticized billionaire Ken Griffin as part of promoting a tax on owners of luxury apartments who do not reside in the city permanently.
"Ken Griffin worked hard to earn all that money. He took a lot of risks to earn it. That is what America stands for," said Kushner.
According to him, despite the planned move to Florida, he does not intend to completely sever his ties with New York. He will continue to keep his apartment in the city and will even pay the new tax, but expressed concern that Mamdani's tenure could harm the city. "If there is one person who can destroy New York or bring it down - it is this mayor," he said.
Kushner, a veteran real estate developer who built one of the most well-known family real estate companies in the United States, was convicted in 2004 of tax offenses, obstruction of justice, and illegal campaign contributions, but was later granted a pardon by President Donald Trump. His eldest son, Jared Kushner, served as a senior advisor in the White House and is Donald Trump's son-in-law.
