One game was enough: Daniel Peretz received a clear message from his coach

After missing Southampton's first pre-season match and being spotted with a brace on his hand, Daniel Peretz recorded his first appearance of the season on Friday evening. The Israeli goalkeeper naturally kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Germany's Eintracht Braunschweig.

Peretz started in Tonde Eckert's XI and was substituted at halftime along with all the starting players, as is customary in matches of this type. Despite this, the big news from the training match is the clear hierarchy that the German coach has established: Daniel Peretz is the first-choice goalkeeper, George Long is the second-choice, while Aaron Ramsdale, one of the top goalkeepers in England, sat in the stands despite being present at the match.

At the end of the meeting, Daniel Peretz approached the club's interview area and sent a reassuring message regarding his hand injury:

"I feel good. I also played with the brace in the previous game. It is something I had in the last two months of last season as well — I can play and train. It might look a bit dramatic, but it is only for protection."

The Israeli goalkeeper also spoke about the workload at the training camp:

"We like to be busy. In the last months of last season, we played match after match. We need to get used to the fact that we win and immediately move on to the next game. That's how it is, this is today's football."

He finished by thanking the fans who traveled to the training match in Germany: "It was really good to see them again after the break, and I can't wait to see them at St. Mary's.
