Omer Miller reveals a dramatic family decision: "Our path is different"
Omer Miller and Shiranka shared the difficult decision they made regarding their three young children, who were supposed to start school this year, and sparked a very big storm on social media.
Just before the start of the school year, when their three children were set to enter first grade, chef and content creator Omer Miller opened his heart in a post that sparked a significant storm. Miller and his wife Shiranka, parents to twins Ray and Moon and their little sister Lucy, updated their followers on a dramatic and unexpected step:
"Shiranka and I have decided not to send our three children to the institutional education system."
This decision comes after years of profound changes within the family. Since becoming parents during the COVID-19 period, the couple has undergone a significant transformation that has influenced their careers, worldview, and even their place of residence—from leaving Tel Aviv for a moshav in the Sharon region to their current move to the Jezreel Valley.
Miller shared that stepping away from the institutional education system contradicts the picture he had imagined in the past: "Since the children were born, I imagined the moment when I would stand in the kitchen in the morning, make them sandwiches, and send them to the first grade. This is a picture I had in my head for years, but life has taken us on a different path."
A central part of the couple's shift in perception concerns family nutrition. Miller explained that the most dramatic change he has undergone in recent years is in his approach to the food the children eat. He believes that children's food should provide longer-lasting satiety, contain fewer sugars, be less processed, and help them feel calmer and more focused throughout the day.
The revelation quickly intensified the discussion on social media, with reactions ranging from support for homeschooling to harsh criticism of the state of the education system.
