Animator Shares Name With Politician, Gets Banned From Social Media
An animator sharing his name with retired General Ofer Winter saw his social media accounts suspended after joking about the politician, highlighting a comical identity mix-up.

For forty years, Ofer Winter, an animator and director from Kfar Adumim, has shared his exact first and last name with retired Brigadier General Ofer Winter, chairman of the Amcha Yisrael Party. When calls grew within the Netanyahu camp for the politician to step down, the animator decided to play with the idea that his name had become a hot potato of the elections, without realizing how far it would go.
"After much deliberation, I decided not to run in the elections," the creator joked online. "I will continue to serve the people of Israel from my own place." What started as a humorous post escalated to the point where Facebook notified Winter that his account was disabled on October 24, 2026, due to suspected impersonation. He published a similar message on his TikTok account, which also led to a suspension on the Chinese platform.
On his WhatsApp account, Winter clarified the confusion: "Many people confuse the original Ofer Winter, which is me, with the second Ofer Winter. Yesterday, following a rather successful joke on Facebook, my account was blocked as if I were fake. But I am not fake. I am a real person." Winter even displayed his identity card to prove his authenticity.
He added with characteristic humor: "So true, it is confusing because both of us are alpha males with deep, authoritative voices and a glorious military record. I was a sergeant in field intelligence, and he also did something in the army, but we are not the same person. I am a director and animation creator, and he is a discharged soldier." Winter urged the public to stop sending him PR messages and press releases, pleading only for Facebook to restore his account so he can read long articles again.
