A 27-year-old Minnesota man became a local hero after successfully stopping a runaway school bus carrying 19 terrified children after the driver suffered a medical emergency. Ebro Ahmed was playing outside his family's store in Saint Paul when he noticed the school bus rolling slowly with its door open. Realizing the driver was incapacitated, Ahmed sprinted after the moving vehicle, jumped inside, and took control.
Despite having no experience driving a bus, Ahmed managed to navigate the controls under extreme pressure. After accidentally shifting into reverse on his first attempt, he quickly corrected the gear, shifted to neutral, and engaged the emergency brake. Once the bus came to a complete stop, he turned around to check on the 19 students, some of whom were crying and holding their phones to call for help.
Remarkably, none of the 19 students on board were injured. The driver was transported to a hospital, later discharged, and is recovering at home. A replacement bus picked up the children to take them to their destination, while Ahmed received widespread praise and an award for his quick thinking.
Crediting his composure to his television habits, Ahmed told CBS News that watching Grey's Anatomy helped him stay calm during the crisis. "You never see the doctors panicking on Grey's Anatomy," he said. Despite the publicity and accolades, Ahmed remains humble about his actions, insisting that anyone in his position would have done the exact same thing.
