MK Ofer Cassif attempted today, Friday, to stage a provocation against IDF soldiers and residents by trying to reach the village of Kusra in Judea and Samaria. The security establishment was aware of the MK's planned move and prepared to intervene.
Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed forces on the ground to prevent Cassif from reaching the Arab village. Security forces successfully blocked the MK and his accompanying group, thereby preventing the provocation.
At the same time, the Defense Minister instructed the IDF to coordinate with the Israel Police to prepare a detailed plan for transferring all enforcement powers regarding civil issues within Israeli settlements and among the population in Judea and Samaria to the police.
Under the directive, the police will establish a dedicated unit to handle civil matters and will be granted the necessary powers and budgets. Defense Minister Katz explained his decision by stating that handling civil law enforcement in Judea and Samaria is not the role of the IDF, nor does the military have the capacity to manage such tasks.
